Data projections are one of the most important aspects in digital mapping. Unfortunately, they can also be the most confusing. Because the Earth is not flat, representing a 3D sphere on a flat, 2D plane can be very difficult.

Some of the most basic mistakes in digital mapping are related to unknown or mismatched data projections.
